MakeTank’s next endeavor involves an important project that will empower our community of makers to collaboratively improve Boston's ability to represent itself. To do this are will be re-making and expanding the existing City of Boston model on display at the Boston Society of Architects. This project will demonstrate the power of collaborative community making and its ability to inspire and present an entire city.To accomplish this MakeTank will crowdsource the translation of existing City of Boston 3D models into more representational data. Each participating maker will be given an existing digital section of the city in order to refine its precision and accuracy. As a community, we will develop how this crowd-sourced digital making can develop new workflows and opportunities for large scale documentation.Subsequently, MakeTank will aggregate the refined information in order to both improve the City of Boston’s existing information database and 3D print a new large scale Model of the City. We are excited that this new model and the process of collaborative making will greatly improve its usability and representational quality for our city.Currently, being at the beginning of this project, we have many things to collaborate on, however, we are excited about a couple of opportunities. Local makers and designers have already committed to the crowdsourced process as an outlet for their passion for our city. Additionally, local vendors have committed to donating resources like 3D printers to the cause. These resources will be on display at the Boston Society of Architects where the public will get the chance to see first hand both the process and final representation of our city.
