CITYPRINT
In collaboration with our partners the Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA), pbc Geographic Information Services (pbcGIS), BluEdge, AET Labs, Stratasys, and GrabCad, MakeTank’s next endeavor is a project that will empower our community of makers to collaboratively improve Boston's ability to represent itself. This project will demonstrate the power of collective community making and its ability to inspire and represent an entire city through the creation of a new, digitally fabricated, City of Boston model for display at the Boston Society of Architects.
To accomplish this, MakeTank, will gather makers within the greater Boston AEC Community to crowdsource the translation of the city’s existing digital models into fabrication-ready data. Each participating maker will be given an existing digital section of the city, and as a community, we will develop a collection of 3D-printable digital models. Subsequently, the digital models will be used to produce a new 3D-printed physical scale model of the city of Boston. Printed on FDM printers donated by Stratysis, Bluedge, AET Labs and supported by GrabCad, the model will be placed on permanent display in the lobby of the BSA Space. Upon completion of this new physical model, the associated digital files will be made available for free use by the public.
We are proud to facilitate the creation and free distribution of this resource for our community and hope it will aid in the democratization of design within the Boston area. If you want to help us build a better Boston, please use the link below to claim a section of the city! And don't miss the chance to stop by the BSA to see the city printed out in person.
